01 Jul Throw an Independence Day Pool Party at Westchester Tower
Here are some tips on how to throw Maryland’s most legendary July 4th pool party at Westchester Tower pet-friendly apartments in College Park. You can’t lose with swimming pools, barbecue areas that include both gas & charcoal grills, and a beautiful gazebo. Your friends and family will have a blast at your celebration!
Fun With Food
Instead of meat, chicken, and seafood to weigh partiers down, try some colorful grilled veggies: corn, peppers, onions, squash, zucchini, and eggplant. Instead of steaks, try a diverse array of kabobs like watermelon and feta cheese with a sprig of either mint or basil. Baked potatoes (wrapped in foil on the grill), chili, and bacon-wrapped anything are also great Independence Day items.
Those who love swimming may also enjoy lighter fare and finger foods such as raw vegetables, popsicles, and red, white, and blue combinations of watermelon, blueberries, and peeled apples (or any fruity flag-colored blend). Fresh fruit displays can double as centerpieces on your tables.
Try this beet, mushroom, and avocado salad recipe from Good Housekeeping for a lighter but still-substantial fare.
For dessert, combine angel food cake, strawberries, blueberries, and a topping/filling of your choice: maybe vanilla custard, cream cheese, or whipped cream? Let your imagination decide. Shortcakes with strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream can also be color-coordinated.

Merry Drinks
Make sure you supply plenty of water to your party-goers, as this summer will be hot, and dehydration can even happen waterside. But also: “wine-ot” freeze wine for a surprise, or have your kids set up a lemonade stand! Frozen fruit ice cubes with strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries are another great addition.
Of course, there’s always beer at any barbecue, but red, white & blue Jell-O shots may be just what this party needs.
Last but not least, don’t forget to learn everything you can about pool safety (especially for your kids) and check out more top Independence Day pool party tips here.
